More about CBD Pet Products
Like people, pets' lives can be more comfortable and less stressful. Pets experience the discomforts of aging and the stress of separation. Some become anxious when overstimulated or when exposed to loud environments like fireworks and thunderstorms. External ailments are also common. Many pets, especially dogs and horses, experience skin irritation and the resulting sores and hair loss. The antimicrobial properties of CBD (and some of the other cannabinoids found in the hemp plant) frequently provide relief, support comfort, and aide the healing process.
As pets age, their joints can become stiff. They may have difficulty moving and their lives can become less active. Reducing pain and inflammation can be helpful in improving activity for your pet. Activity helps assure joints remain flexible and muscles remain strong. To achieve the best possible effects, consistent use of full spectrum hemp products containing the full host of cannabinoids, including CBD, is recommended. While your pet may start to feel the effects quickly, consistent use over time will generally continue to provide improvement.
How do I give my pet CBD?
The pet tincture can be applied to your pet's food, given orally, or applied directly to the skin. The pet tincture is made using full spectrum hemp extract which supplies CBD along with the full host of cannabinoids available from the hemp plant.
If I use the Pet Tincture, how much should I give my pet?
Just like in people, there are many factors that determine the best dosage for your pet. We use the following weigh guidelines to provide a starting point.
-
5- 19 lbs - 1/4 dropper
-
20 - 29 lbs - 1/2 dropper
-
30 - 39 lbs - 3/4 dropper
-
40 - 59 lbs - 1 dropper
-
60+ lbs - 1 1/2 dropper
The dropper that comes with the tincture is graduated to make selecting the proper amount easier. Other factors like metabolism, activity level, pre-existing conditions, etc. may require more than the starting points listed above. If, after several days, you are not seeing improvement, slowly increase the dosage.
Could CBD products help with my pet's mood?
Dogs and cats are our most chosen companion animals. They frequently reside in our homes with us, our children, and, many times, other pet family members as well. They may not always get along with everyone. Who wants a grumpy pet?! They can also experience separation anxiety when left alone. They may show this through chewing, disrupting, and/or destroying whatever they can get their paws on. CBD products, especially when given consistently over time, can support an increased sense of well-being and calm for your pet. Frequently, destructive behaviors are reduced and grumpiness is a thing of the past.
Is CBD safe for my pet?
It turns out that our pets are more like us than we knew. Like people, pets have an endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system has been shown to play a role in many bodily functions, including:
-
chronic pain
-
inflammation
-
metabolism
-
mood
-
motor control
-
sleep
-
stress
-
skin and nerve function
Check out our blog post on the endocannabinoid system for more detail (or this great scientific study)
The endocannabinoid system is full of CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors are found primarily in the central nervous system. CB2 receptors are found throughout the body, including the immune system. The amazing thing about the phytocannabinoids ("phyto" just means plant) found in the hemp plant is that they interact directly with the CB1 and CB2 receptors found in your pet's body! This is why CBD and the other cannabinoids have such a beneficial impact on you and your pet.
